Unexpected Moments
This painting was one of two smaller works that inspired my Hills + Valleys series. I painted this one in the weeks right after my mother-in-law passed. Everything felt unstable, with grief and gratitude rising and falling in ways I couldn’t quite predict. The landscape took shape intuitively, through layered color and shifting forms. Exploring my own internal experience, this piece holds both weight and openness. And the understanding that even in the depths of sadness, there are bright, unexpected moments of clarity and joy.
