Gillian was born in Peebles, Scotland. She studied Fine Art (Painting) at Coventry University, England, and Illustration/Painting at Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge, England, under painter Thomas Newbolt and illustrators Jane Human and Allan Drummond. She earned an MFA in Illustration from Brighton College of Art and Design in the UK. This focus on illustration gave her a love of narrative interpretation. Gillian is continually evolving as she pursues mastery in representational figurative work. She paints weekly alongside local masters in Daniel Sprick’s Studio, Denver. Her biggest influences are Singer Sargent, Marc Chagall, Velasquez, the Pre-raphaelites, Titian, and Reubens. She has been teaching privately for many decades, passing on the tradition of figurative art and teaching observation, measuring, relationships, light, values, and experimentation with mediums.
